Back in March 2011, RIM announced that the PlayBook would run Android apps. We wondered if this would hold for BlackBerry handsets. RIM made it official that upcoming QNX devices will support Android apps. This is a smart move as RIM’s market share is on life support, but what they really need to do is ban QNX and move completely to Android. At least this is a start. I suspect that by the second half of 2012 they will fully adopt Android or they will be acquired by Microsoft.
You can expect to see the first QNX-based handsets in early 2012. By that time, it will probably already be too late for RIM. What do you guys think? Are you more willing to buy a a new BlackBerry phone that supports Android apps next year.
